Story Behind POET…
Ted and Alison have poured years of experience teaching and researching creativity in a business setting into the development of POET. They designed the program exclusively for DuPont in 1989.
A technical group manager commissioned it after working with Ted and Alison in another creative problem solving program. He decided to invest in the creativity of the people he worked with because he was convinced that would bring his only sustainable competitive advantage.
During the design process Ted and Alison met with a number of talented and experienced scientists to explore the processes and thinking skills used in both day-to-day problem solving and on-going research. Ted and Alison then developed POET synthesizing the best creative problem solving strategies they knew with those described by the scientists.
POET Produces Results…
The most striking result was millions of documented dollars to DuPont's bottom line!
The sponsoring technical group manager also saw a new spirit of confidence that grew as people solved tough problems creatively, enthusiasm for taking on challenges at all levels, a more cohesive and involved team and a spirit of adventure and fun at work.
POET's success at the Spruance Plant led to DuPont's Center for Creativity and Innovation offering it throughout their company. The program was so effective that Applied Creativity, Inc. was named DuPont's preferred vendor for creativity training and Ted and Alison were presented with DuPont's Creative Thinking Award.
Mystery and Magic…
At POET we take the mystery out of creativity and keep its magic.
POET is a hands-on, interactive experience that gives people lots of practice using creative thinking skills and processes while working on their own real problems and opportunities.
That means people are still on the job, just at a different location. Participants work alone and together on important work related problems-clarifying issues, imagining ideal outcomes, inventing ideas and developing them into action plans that can be implemented back on the job.
What's an Idea Worth?
People tell us that the ideas they invented and developed at POET more than paid for the course and then some-sometimes in the millions of dollars.
You can expect that everyone who attends POET will develop ideas that will make or save their company the money invested in their participation. That's just the beginning-the principles and practices they learn will pay dividends for life.

Two Intense, Power-Packed Days…
Creativity is developmental. That means no matter how creative you are, you can always get better. Investing in two days of intensive exploration helps assure that people gain enough mastery to feel confident that they can apply the principles and practices they learn on the job.
That means when people leave POET they can practice and apply what they have learned in all arenas of their life. There is no place where the learnings aren't relevant. Many tell us that the exploration of creativity they began at POET starts out as a new way of thinking and then, with time and attention, turns into a new way of living.
The Learning Community…
We purposefully develop a climate where adults can learn together in an interactive community. Enrollment is limited to 24 people to assure that people get all the personal attention they need.
